ScanSpeeder photo scanning software uses a scan method called, "WIA" for its default simple scan mode. This means that when you use this feature, your scanner needs the latest WIA driver. If your scanner is connected and turned on, yet ScanSpeeder indicates it is not, it is likely your scanner needs an updated WIA driver or is missing its WIA driver. Fortunately it is a simple fix.
Here is a quick test to see if your scanner has the latest WIA driver such that you can use the default simple scan mode:
- Click your Windows start button
- In the Windows search for programs and files option type in, “Scanners”.
- Select “View Scanners and Cameras”.
- Select your scanner (ex. Epson, Canon, Brother, etc.), click "Properties".
- (Please note: If you don’t see your scanner, then no WIA driver is installed. Stop here. You will need to install the latest WIA driver for your scanner to use the default simple scan mode offered by ScanSpeeder or switch to the alternate scan mode (in ScanSpeeder: File menu > Select Scan Method > TWAIN) to see if your scanner will then connect. How to install the latest WIA driver? Please refer to the How To article: How to install the latest WIA driver.
- Then select "Test Scanner". A message will appear indicating whether the test was successful or not.
- If the test fails, then this indicates there is an issue with the WIA scanner driver. Stop here. You will need to install the latest WIA driver for your scanner to use the default simple scan mode offered by ScanSpeeder or switch to the alternate scan mode (in ScanSpeeder: File menu > Select Scan Method > TWAIN) to see if your scanner will then connect.
